The correct way not to decide on your next backpacking trip

Because of the appearance of July you could say that summer is now in complete bloom. And what better way to indulge in summer than with that most excellent of summertime entertainments – proceeding to some other part of the us you are not familiar with in order to live in a tent and eat either burned or slightly cooked dinner. The best part is, enjoy the magic of getting your water from a faucet down the street (if you are lucky) instead of from the familiar and user friendly sink in your home. And let us not fail to remember the magic of arising in the middle of the night to grope around for a flashlight so you can hike through the dark unfamiliar to a frosty unlit toilet, oftentimes even of the kind that is not a lot more than a elementary hole in the ground. Indeed, it is time for that wonder of wonders – camping!

I must own up to relishing camping, generally have. When I was a youngster we would most likely all look forward to that two week vacation in the summer. Months before my Dad would take out the maps of the border states and begin to chat with my Mother about the distinct value of the Oregon Coast opposed to the mountains of Washington. They would undoubtedly send away for a variety of literature and look at a bunch of campgrounds when making the choice. Of course, today it is all simply a matter of pulling up a small amount of queries on the web to see which State Parks are actually accessible for camping. If you reside in California, as I do, you will want to search slightly deeper than most unless you made a booking a minimum of a year in advance. I am aware of some sites that open for reservations on the same day each and every year and are booked solid within just a couple of hours for the whole season.

With that being said, I nonetheless sensed a tiny joy when a good friend of my very own and I resolved that this season we definitely were going to go camping together. We had talked of this a year ago, but in some way neither of us truly got around to taking care of it and so we never went. However this year, I am driven to discover us a camping site and a weekend getaway. Our primary choice, Catalina Island’s Two Harbors appeared good to begin with. The web site was simple to find, all the sites had calendars informing us those that were reserved and those that were readily available. But after a number of emails forwards and backwards, we determined that the only possible weekend left obtainable in the summer was the weekend she was traveling away to a Yoga Retreat. So, regretfully, we made a decision that the vacation to Catalina Island would have to be delayed for another time.

I am still on the search for a different campsite but on this occasion I have no illusions. For me to come across anything halfway decent that isn’t booked will possibly mean leaving the state. I am organizing to start looking real soon. I may well even find something today or tomorrow. Just as soon as I get this blog done, my writing projects submitted and the pages put in to my own sites. Well, maybe I will get to it tomorrow. But this week – I mean it – I will get that camping trip ordered.
